From Salem to the World
One of the ways that vision style—a two-toned sepia palette—is used in iBIBLE is to show God making a covenant or promise that goes beyond what is happening in that moment. In today’s Behind the Scenes, see God’s promise to Abraham on Mount Moriah.
In this sequence from iBIBLE Genesis Episode 17, the vision style is used to show future promises from God. God told Abraham that “I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies, and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed” (Genesis 22:17–18a).
To illustrate the promise of God to Abraham in this iBIBLE episode, Abraham is shown looking out from Mount Moriah onto the plain where the ancient city of Salem was most likely visible.
At this time, Melchizedek was King over Salem (see Genesis 14:18). As time passed time, Salem would become the Amorite city of Jebus, before becoming Jerusalem and being conquered by David in 2 Samuel 5. Mount Moriah, where Abraham stood, would also become the temple mount (see 2 Chronicles 3:1).
In the vision style, the city of Salem grows, emphasizing how God would multiply Abraham’s offspring. Salem becomes Jerusalem, showing the capital of the land that Abraham’s descendants would inherit. From Jerusalem, the world is shown. Jesus, the Savior, would come from Abraham’s descendants, and through Him the nations could receive the blessing of salvation (see Galatians 3:16).
God’s promises to His people are important for all ages to learn because they teach us about God. God does not change, and His plan for our salvation was promised even in the first book of Genesis. iBIBLE exists to help people of all ages engage with and know God’s Word in a format that they can understand.
