This week, step into our 3D recreation of the Garden of Gethsemane. This olive grove carries echoes of Eden and bears witness to Christ’s arrest—the moment that began the turning point of human redemption. Below, you’ll get a glimpse of the animation RevelationMedia are using to reimagine this sacred garden for the upcoming episodes of iBIBLE.
The artists conduct research into the location’s topography, archeology, vegetation, and more to invite audiences into the world of Scripture. This first image shows a frame from the garden’s design, showcasing the olive grove’s proximity to the Temple Mount.
According to the four Gospels, Jesus went to Gethsemane to pray after the Last Supper, experiencing deep sorrow and submitting to God’s will for His impending crucifixion. Gethsemane was a regular meeting and prayer spot for Christ. The garden is located in the eastern part of Jerusalem. Its name, Gethsemane, comes from the Hebrew words for “oil press,” reflecting the area’s history of olive cultivation and pressing.
Like the pressing of an olive, Christ bore the immense weight of the task set before Him. In the ancient world, olives were crushed and placed into baskets, which were stacked and pressed three times to release their precious oil. That oil illuminated lamps, anointed kings, brought healing, and served many other vital purposes. In Gethsemane, Christ prayed three times, asking His Father if there was any other way to redeem humanity apart from the cross. Under the crushing burden of what lay ahead, He sweat drops of blood—like the olive, pressed beyond measure, yet yielding what would bring light, anointing, healing, and life to the world.
The animators worked carefully to capture the beauty of this sacred garden. In Eden, Adam and Eve failed to trust God and betrayed Him—but in Gethsemane, Christ was betrayed and yet remained faithful. There, in the olive grove, He surrendered to take upon Himself the weight of every curse humanity had earned. Today, the Garden of Gethsemane remains a central place of Christian pilgrimage.
