Animating the Capernaum Docks

This week, we’ll journey to the edge of Capernaum, to the docks on the sea of Galilee. These docks would have been a familiar working location to Peter, Andrew, James, and John, disciples of Jesus who previously worked as fishermen in and around Capernaum.
Declining water levels in the Sea of Galilee in recent decades have allowed for greater excavation of this historic town. In fact, this iBIBLE set closely resembles an ancient roman pier discovered at Capernaum in recent decades. It is believed to be either from Jesus’ time or only a couple hundred years later. Archeologists found many rows made of stone with recesses and harbors for docking boats. Some were curved, and the longest extended about a hundred feet from shore.
In addition to the piers themselves, archeologists also discovered storage pools built into the ground, most likely used to store fish and keep them fresh. Examples of these can be found in the images above.
As with the tax booth from last week’s behind-the-scenes email, the Capernaum docks were created individually by the iBIBLE animation team, then connected to the rest of the city and given their finishing touches.
