This week, we invite you to learn more about the animators’ careful considerations in capturing the persona of King Solomon, the wisest and wealthiest ruler of the ancient world. Discover the significant impact of King Solomon and explore the animation process that RevelationMedia employs to create a historically informed portrayal of this illustrious ancient Israelite ruler for upcoming episodes of iBIBLE.

To depict King Solomon accurately, the animators researched the dyes used by this wealthy ruler. Israeli archeologists found remnants of woven fabric, tassels, and fibers of wool dyed with royal purple while conducting research in Israel. The textile went through direct radiocarbon dating, and it was concluded that the fabric dated to approximately 1000 BC, the time when the Biblical monarchs King David and King Solomon ruled the land.
Archeological studies like these regularly influence the animators’ artistic interpretation of Biblical figures, demonstrated by the illustrations above and below.

The purple-dyed textile was discovered in the Timna Valley, an area known for its ancient copper production. The dye originated from a species of mollusk found in the Mediterranean, more than 185 miles away.
The scripture refers to King Solomon using this royal dye in Song of Solomon: “King Solomon made himself a carriage from the wood of Lebanon. He made its posts of silver, its back of gold, its seat of purple; its interior was inlaid with love by the daughters of Jerusalem” (Song of Solomon 3:9–10, ESV, emphasis added).
