This week, we invite you to meet Hezekiah, a king of Judah who reigned from approximately 715 BC to 686 BC. Renowned for his righteousness, Hezekiah took bold steps to eliminate idol worship in Judah and led a movement to restore faith in the One True God. Join us as our talented animators bring to life the wardrobe of this iconic ruler, exploring the deeper significance of his historical attire for upcoming episodes of iBIBLE.

In the ancient world, clothing was not as easily accessible as it is today. The limited outfits worn by the Israelites reflected their status, role, gender, and cultural identity within their society. The animations created by RevelationMedia thoughtfully take this into account when designing Biblical figures. They recognize the significance of a person’s clothing as an integral expression of their identity.

Scholars believe that wool and linen were the dominant textiles in Judah during the 8th century BC. Wool was valued for its comfort, while linen was used to signify ritual holiness. According to the research conducted, King Hezekiah’s royal dress likely featured fine bleached or dyed wool and, on ceremonial occasions, linen robes resembling priestly garments.

The typical attire of the Judean elite included a ketonet (tunic), a me’il (outer robe), and an ‘adderet (cloak). These garments were often adorned with patterned borders or metallic thread. Reliefs from the annals of King Sennacherib of Assyria depict Judean tribute-bearers wearing long, decorated robes, which supports this reconstruction.

King Hezekiah and the other elite of Judea would have worn wool garments richly dyed in blue, purple, or scarlet colors obtained from specific shells and insects. Any Judean at that time would have immediately recognized these colors as symbols of holiness and kingship. The animators strive for archeological accuracy, period authenticity, and artistic depth when depicting a Biblical figure to fully immerse viewers in the world of Scripture.
