This week, see how RevelationMedia brings Alexander III of Macedon to life, highlighting the careful animation choices that capture the ambition and legacy of this influential conqueror. Alexander lived centuries after Daniel, and his empire fulfilled prophecies about the rise of the Greek kingdom.
Discover his influence on the Biblical Narrative through the animators’ historically informed recreation of this pivotal figure in the upcoming episodes of iBIBLE.
Ascending the throne of Macedon at just 20 years old, Alexander became a charismatic yet ruthless leader. Tutored by Aristotle, he conquered the vast Persian Empire in a decade, expanded his dominion from Greece to Egypt and India, and laid the foundation of the Hellenistic world. Alexander accomplished this all before his death at age 32. He is remembered as a ruler who never lost a battle and who left a long-lasting impact on the ancient world.
Though not named in Scripture, the rise of Alexander’s empire is widely understood as the fulfillment of Daniel’s prophecy. In Daniel 8, the prophet describes a goat from the west with a conspicuous horn between its eyes striking down a ram and breaking its horns. Later, the vision is explained:
“And the goat is the king of Greece. And the great horn between his eyes is the first king. As for the horn that was broken, in place of which four others arose, four kingdoms shall arise from his nation, but not with his power,” (Daniel 8:21–22, ESV). This imagery mirrors Alexander’s rise and the division of his empire after his death.
The images above and below showcase the animators’ portrayal of this infamous ruler based on ancient sculptures, archeology, and the information of the era provided by key historians.
Jewish historian Flavius Josephus even records a traditional story that when Alexander marched on Jerusalem, he was welcomed by the high priest and shown the Book of Daniel, which Alexander believed foretold his victory over Persia. While most scholars see this story as legendary, the account reflects how Alexander’s legacy was remembered in connection with prophecy and Jewish history.
Bringing such a figure to the screen requires both historical insight and artistic skill. Our team of animators carefully shaped Alexander’s imposing presence by understanding the spread of Greek culture during his reign, which laid the groundwork for the historical and cultural context of the New Testament. Below is a carefully labeled depiction of Alexander’s attire that he would have worn while riding into battle.
