Animating Places: The City of Ur

This week, learn more about the creation of the city of Ur for iBIBLE through a look at how our artists and animators use research to meticulously craft each element of the story. Each scene of iBIBLE is carefully researched and designed piece-by-piece to be as accurate and engaging as possible.
This first image shows the preliminary research and design for the city of Ur. For this part of the iBIBLE episode, the animators began with preliminary research, including maps of Ur, its ziggurat, and its unique shape. This type of detailed research is what goes into the planning and preparation of each location, person, and episode of iBIBLE.
The animators then create an initial design, begun here below. The large, main wall is built in the front, and animators use blocks to represent larger buildings for proper perspective. Notice the outer gate and the inner gate, common for larger cities at the time for better fortification against enemies. The animators will finish all of the gates, closing them completely and adding flora, fauna, and many other assets/details throughout the production process.
Lastly, you can see a GIF of a section of Ur, building off of the research and including further development of the initial concept above. In the final product, you will see more flora and fauna added, as well as more detail within the city.
